The ever-popular charity jersey initiative between Magpies principal sponsor TotalEnergies NZ is back for its 5th year and Dementia Hawkes Bay are this year's chosen partner.  https://dementia.nz/

The HBRU received a significant number of entries again this year from a range of charities who all do so many great things in our community. But one stood out this season, with some personal connections with the charity as well as the disability, Dementia Hawkes Bay has been selected as the 2024 partner.  

The Magpies will again play in this one-off jersey at one home game this season. Playing jerseys will again be auctioned off with the public and collectors able to bid on these through Trade Me. Replica jerseys are now available to be pre purchased with proceeds from sales being provided to Dementia Hawkes Bay. 

The collaborative design, between Hawke’s Bay Rugby, TotalEnergies NZ and Dementia Hawkes Bay has been finalized. The new jersey includes a Magnolia flower, the Dementia Hawkes Bay logo on the bottom of the jersey fading to black utilizing the traditional colours of Hawke’s Bay but also incorporating the colours of dementia in individual flowers.   

·        Blue, for those who are living with Dementia. 

·        Red, represents those who have lost a loved one due to dementia. 

·        Yellow, for the caregivers 

·        Orange, for everybody who thinks there will one day be a world without dementia. 

·        White represents optimism 

TotalEnergies NZ will cover the costs of the production of playing jerseys to ensure that as much money as possible is raised. CEO of TotalEnergies NZ Reuben Thickpenny was again thrilled to be involved. “We are delighted to once again support the charity jersey initiative and in particular Dementia Hawkes Bay which has special significance to our family and business”. Dementia Hawkes Bay was passionately supported by TotalEnergies NZ Chairman Colin Francis who unfortunately passed away earlier this year. “It’s great for us to continue Colin and Helen’s support for such a great cause and help raise funds and awareness for our dementia in our community” Thickpenny added.   

Dementia Hawkes Bay is a Charitable Trust whose focus is a continuation of the development and delivery of quality services to people with a diagnosis of dementia and their whanau in the Hawke’s Bay region. Their services are unique, they support people to function well in their own home and within the community from the point of diagnosis and throughout their dementia journey. Other services include the Active Brain Programme, Cognitive Stimulation workshops, industry education, carer support groups, carer and client education and community awareness.

Like previous seasons the Magpies team will be connecting with the chosen charity to ensure they get an understanding of the disease and the people it affects as well as providing support where it's best needed and to help raise awareness.
