Magpies Unveil 2025 Charity Jersey Supporting Acorn Project Hawke’s Bay

The Hawke’s Bay Magpies are proud to unveil their 2025 Charity Jersey, created in support of Acorn Project Hawke’s Bay—a local organisation providing vital support to rangatahi under 25 and their families living with cancer across the region.

In a powerful first for the campaign, this year’s jersey was designed by young people connected to Acorn Project themselves.

The Magpies will wear the jersey in their Charity Round fixture against Auckland on Thursday, 25 September at McLean Park, with all match-worn jerseys to be auctioned off. 100% of proceeds will go directly to Acorn Project Hawke’s Bay.

“We are so excited to have been chosen as the recipients of the Magpies Charity Jersey 2025,” said the Founder of Acorn Project Hawke’s Bay.“Working with Hawke's Bay Rugby Union, the Magpies, and Total Energies NZ is an amazing opportunity for us and we are so grateful. Firstly, together we will raise our profile and highlight the support that we offer to young people under 25 years and their family living with cancer right here in the Bay. The more we spread the word, the more people we can help. Secondly, this opportunity will enable us to raise much-needed funds to meet the growing need for our support. Regardless of where that young person and their family is in their cancer experience, we will meet their individual needs. With the support from the Hawke's Bay community, together we can make a difference for people who have had their lives turned upside down by this devastating disease. The 2025 Charity Jersey is showing those impacted by cancer that they are not alone—and the Magpies are supporting them every step of the way.”

Long-time Magpies partner and major sponsor Total Energies NZ has once again backed the Charity Jersey initiative, proudly supporting this year’s collaboration with Acorn Project.

“We’re super excited to be part of the annual charity jersey initiative again—this time backing The Acorn Project,” said Reuben Thickpenny, Director at Total Energies NZ.“They do amazing work helping people through tough times with the support and resources they need. By teaming up through our love of rugby and giving back, we’re hoping to raise awareness and lend a hand where it’s really needed. This partnership shows how much we care about making a real difference in our community. We’d love for everyone to get behind The Acorn Project and this awesome cause.”

Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union CEO Jay Campbell echoed the sentiment:

“This is more than a jersey—it’s a message of support, designed by the very people it’s here to help. We’re incredibly proud to stand alongside Acorn Project and Total Energies NZ in making this year’s Charity Round truly special.”

Replica jerseys will be available for purchase online at www.hbmagpies.co.nz or through Hawkes Bay Rugby admin@hbrugby.co.nz until 5pm Wednesday 6th August, with proceeds from every sale going directly to Acorn Project Hawke’s Bay.
